Obituary

William H. Murphy, Jr. 66, of Jamestown, passed away peacefully, Monday September 5, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Marlene (Blair) Murphy.
Born in Panama City, FL, he was the son of the late William H. and Lottie A. (Bomba) Murphy.
A twenty year Veteran of the US Army, Bill proudly served during the Vietnam War and Desert Storm.
He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1967 and received an Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement from Salve Regina University. He received a BS in Law Enforcement from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master's in Administration from Central Michigan University.
Bill worked for the Jamestown Police Department for three years. As a business owner, he operated a Subway shop at Bryant University and a Sears store in Middletown. He retired from Citizens Bank in 2013 as a senior loan officer.
He was a member of the DAV, VFW, Knights of Columbus, the Jamestown Lions Club and the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Murphy served two terms on the Jamestown Town Council and one term as a State Representative. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the East Bay Community Action Program and was the recipient of their Vision Award in 2016.
Bill enjoyed traveling, cars, Ohio State football, the Boston Red Sox and Disney World.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his son, William H. Murphy of Quincy, MA; and three sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 10am in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Mark Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday 4-8pm in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the East Bay Community Action Program will be appreciated.
