Obituary

Thomas James Boyle, Sr., 93, of Greenville, RI passed into eternal life on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Mary Kate (Mohan) Boyle originally of County Leitrim, Ireland for 62 years. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he was the son of the late James P. Boyle and Mary Anne Winfred (Smith) Boyle of Glasgow, Scotland. Mr. Boyle was a WWII Royal Air Force Veteran (1945-1948) and a member of the Rhode Island 8th Air Force Historical Society. Mr. Boyle immigrated to Bronx, New York in 1948 and was a resident of New York City for 22 years. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus where he also taught English as a Second Language for 8 years. He played the accordion and was a member of the 8-member Band “The Merry Macs” in New York City for over 10 years. He relocated his family to Rhode Island in 1970. He was an avid reader and historian who loved dance, music and travel. Employed by Verizon Communications for 36 years, he worked in New York City, Providence and Boston as a Real Estate Manager. After retirement, he was a Broker Associate with the former J. W. Riker Real Estate Commercial Division and was a member of the Rhode Island Realtors Association. Mr. Boyle was an active member of St. Philip Church, Greenville, RI for over 49 years serving on the annual Catholic Charity Fund Campaigns and other fund-raising committees. He was a founding member of the St. Philip Men’s Club and co-chaired the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dances. He enjoyed attending Scottish and Irish cultural events and was a former Vice President and Secretary of the St. Andrew’s Society of Rhode Island, as well as a long-time member of the Robert Burns Committee of Rhode Island and Co-Chair of the Annual Robert Burns Dinner Dances.
He was the brother of John J. Boyle, the late Bridget M. (Boyle) Cooper and the late Daniel P. Boyle all of Glasgow, Scotland. Besides his wife he is survived by his four children; Margaret M. Boyle of Greenville, RI, Kathleen A. Boyle of Cranston, RI, Thomas J. Boyle, Jr. of Cranston, RI, wife Judith (Bowen) Boyle and grandchildren Ava E. Boyle, Lauren Grant and Kevin Grant, Jr. of Cranston, RI, John P. Boyle of Burbank, CA and extended family in RI, MA, NY, Glasgow, Scotland and Ireland (Counties: Donegal, Dublin and Leitrim).
His Funeral and Burial will be Private. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville, RI 02828 will be appreciated.
