Oscar K. Swanson Obituary

Oscar K. Swanson, 94, passed away peacefully at Briarcliffe Gardens on Saturday, December 23, 2017. He was the husband of the late Barbara L. (Abel) Swanson. Born in Thompson, CT., he was the son of the late Ragnar and Jennie (Braetter) Swanson. Mr. Swanson was a Glocester resident for 57 years, a winter resident of Hutchinson, FL for many years and was a resident at the Village of Waterman Lake in Smithfield for 10 years. He was a WWII Navy veteran and served aboard the ship Shelby as a Radarman, Second Class. After serving in the war, he worked at the family owned Swanson-Gay Lumber Company in Cranston; was a purchasing agent for the State of RI for several years and was a nursing home Administrator since 1971 at the Scalabrini Villa and St. Elizabeth Home before retiring in 1988. He attended Kings Point Maritime Academy and Brown University. Mr. Swanson was an avid golfer and was a Past President and Life Member of Glocester Country Club. He was an Eagle Scout and Past President of the Glocester Town Council; past member of the Glocester School Committee and past member of Harmony Lodge #9, F&AM, Cranston.
He was the father of Kenneth A. Swanson and his wife Linda of Savannah, GA, Susan Swanson-Kubaska and her husband Dr. Robert Kubaska of North Scituate and Patricia Swanson of Houston, TX. He is also survived by his sister in-law Dr. Linda Fossen and her husband John; 4 granddaughters and 1 great-grandson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the spring.
