Nena Rosemary (Grindrod) Marshall, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019. She was the loving wife of the late David E. “Dave” Marshall. Born in London, England on December 27, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Philip W. “Phil” and Dorothy “Dee” (Craddock) Grindrod.
Nena was a strong and resilient woman who was fiercely independent. She experienced the tragic loss of her ten-year-old daughter, Sandy, in a car accident in 1964. Nena’s will, determination, and great sense of humor gave her the strength to continue working and raising her surviving daughter. For over fifty years, Nena worked as a sales representative for Avon, where she received numerous President’s Club Awards. She also worked at the local Fabric Gallery where she was the valued assistant to the owner. Nena had a strong interest in public affairs and welcomed passionate conversations. She was an amazing cook and talented seamstress. She was kind, grateful, and always thought of others, including the squirrels, birds, and chipmunks who came to her back yard for peanuts.
Nena was the beloved mother of Deborah “Deb” G. Rollison and her husband Thomas “Tom” J. Rollison, and the late Sandra “Sandy” E. Marshall.
Her funeral will be private.
