Mark Joseph Lussier, 51, an Exeter native, passed away on February 29, 2016. Mark graduated from North Kingstown High School in 1982 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the University of Rhode Island in 1987.
Mark was an avid runner. He ran the Boston Marathon 17 times, along with countless other marathons including the Bay State Marathon. He also enjoyed biking, participating in RAGBRAI: an annual seven day bicycle ride across the state of Iowa.
One of Mark's greatest passions was technology. He developed software for numerous companies before becoming CTO and co-founder of Sanga Corp in 1996. Two years later, he co-founded Actual Software, where he created MultiMail, the email software designed for Palm devices. This ultimately paved the way for technology used on smart phones today. Mark's determination, creativity, and ability to think outside of the box allowed him to find continued success in the software industry.
Mark leaves behind two daughters, Kristin and Jenny Lussier, whom he shared with his former wife, Karen Driver. Mark loved his daughters and considered them his pride and joy. He is survived by his parents, Gary and Audrey Lussier, brother Keith (Lynette) Lussier, and late grandmother, Ruth Lussier. Mark is also survived by his former wife, Georgia Barber and her sons Brian and Dylan, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Alfred Lussier, and Doris and Norman Kettelle.
A celebration of Mark's life will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 1pm in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.
