Obituary

Marissa M. Murphy, 33, died peacefully Monday, January 20, 2020 from health complications with her family by her side. A resident of Warwick for most of her life, she was the beloved daughter of Denise M. (Hack) Murphy and the late James “Jay” Murphy. Marissa was Class Valedictorian at Pilgrim High School Class of 2004. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from URI Class of 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Education with a Minor in Women’s Studies. Upon graduation, she worked at the J. Arthur Trudeau Center where she was a teacher and family coordinator retiring in 2017 due to illness. She had a gift for developing connections and friendships with children with autism. She stayed in touch with some of the children and continued helping them after her retirement. She loved the beach, reading, writing, drawing and visiting her grandmother in Florida. Besides her mother, she leaves her loving sisters, Deanna L. Palombo and her husband Ian J. Palombo, and Kayla J. Murphy and her partner Luis A. Toruno. She is also survived by her grandparents, Joan V. Hack and the late Francis G. Hack, and Satsuko Murphy and the late Edmond E. Murphy. She also leaves her aunts, uncles, and cousins who were so important to her.

A visitation will be held Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 4-7 PM with a service at 7 PM in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Autism Project of RI, 1516 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919 will be appreciated.
