Lorraine Jacqueline (LaPlante) Methe, 87, passed away peacefully at Brookdale Senior Health Care in South Kingstown, Rhode Island on Sunday, May 27, 2018.
Born January 13, 1931 in Springfield, Massachusetts, Lorraine was the oldest daughter of six children in her family. She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Normand Victor Methe Sr., parents, Albert and Marianne (Mondeau) LaPlante; brother Albert LaPlante and her oldest child, Norm Jr.
Lorraine is survived by her daughter MaryAnn (Methe) Corriera and husband John; daughter Eileen (Methe) Minahan and Partner Matt Petersen; Daughter-in-Law Diane (Buker) Methe Siddell and husband Donald; grandchildren Beau Methe and wife Holly; Don Siddell and wife Britta; Brett Siddell; Christine and Matthew Corriera; MaryBeth (Minahan) Johnson and husband Dane; Max and Amanda Minahan; great grand-daughter Brynn Kaleigh Methe; brothers Raymond and Paul LaPlante; sisters Marcella (LaPlante) Clemons and Elaine (LaPlante) Gajewski.
Norm and Lorraine met as children at St. Joseph's Catholic School in Springfield, Massachusetts, were partners in their First Communion procession and went on to be classmates at Cathedral High School, where all three of their children attended as well.
Lorraine made a lovely home for her family in the red house at the top of the hill on Arvesta Street in Springfield. She was often referred to as “Blue Skies” by her husband- in reference to her beautiful rendition of the song when they were in High School. It’s nice to think that it is forever Blue Skies for the both of them now.
When Norm retired, they realized a long held dream and relocated to West Dennis, Cape Cod, and also spent many winters in Naples Florida.
Lorraine was an avid tennis player, baked amazing brownies, could make a mean batch of French Canadian crepes and spoke fluent French. She was always a fierce advocate for her friends and family and liked to refer to herself as a tough cookie in her later years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11am in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown, RI.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to Dream Day on Cape Cod. Donations can be mailed or made on the website: Dream Day on Cape Cod
