Lawrence C. Additon, 88, of North Kingstown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Schlegel) Additon for sixty-six years. Born in Auburn, Maine, he was a son of the late Orland H. and Martha E. (Quimby) Additon.
Mr. Additon was a graduate of Wentworth Institute and a member of the alumni association. He was an engineer and worked as a civilian employee for the US Navy at Quonset for twenty-five years, later working at Raytheon and EG & G before retiring.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Larry was a highly regarded member of the RI Dahlia Society and served as past president. His foremost joy was gardening. He devoted over fifty years to landscaping his property and cultivating his numerous gardens. He warmly welcomed visitors to explore his life’s work of varied specimens and extensive dahlia beds.
Above all, he cherished his family and they will forever treasure his memory. In addition to his wife, he leaves four children, Martha Kauffman of West Warwick, wife of the late Jorey Kauffman, Robin Myers and her husband Kenneth of Warwick and Bethany Additon Barber and her husband Andrew of Warwick and Mark Additon and his wife Stephanie of North Kingstown; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Roland Additon, Sewall Additon, Ethel Tebbets and Flora Ramsay.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 2pm in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. Burial will be private. Gifts in his memory may be made to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 will be appreciated.
