Joseph J. Oliveira, 72, of Jamestown, passed away surrounded by family following post-operative surgery complications on October 6, 2016.
Born in Central Falls, RI , he was the son of the late Joseph A. Oliveira and Francelina (Perry) McConvill. He was a long time partner of Sandra Rocha of Matunuck, RI.
A skilled craftsman and owner of Joseph J. Oliveira Masonry, known for the creation of exceptionally beautiful stone work.
Joe loved life and entertaining family and friends, especially on the 4th of July. He enjoyed lying in his hammock on his dock on the East Passage of Narragansett Bay. He also loved boating and gardening. He spent nearly 40 winters in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico.
A great lover of seafood, Thursday nights with the guys and card games with his daughters, Joe won many poker tournaments and was a avid checker player. His two closest life long friends are Tom Markarian of Jamestown, RI and Bill Brandon of Harsens Island, Michigan.
In addition to Sandra, Joe leaves four daughters, all in Rhode Island; Sherri Deacon and her husband Kevin of Jamestown, Denise Dorman of Narragansett, Jill Townsend and her husband Chuck of Middletown and Jennifer Blanchard and her husband Andy of Ashaway. He is also survived by his sister Judith O. Williams of Narragansett. The love of his life was his ten cherished grand children; Andrew and Paris Deacon, Brian Albert ll and Meredith Dorman, Hope and Luke Roosa, Collin, Ethan and Cameron Blanchard, Kali and Kaila Rocha. And, he was very close to his twenty-eight cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 10 AM at St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown, RI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Boys Club of America or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
