Obituary

Joseph A. Pizzo, 88, of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Warwick, RI died Sunday, October 11, 2020 at his adopted hometown of Fort Myers. Joe was born in Providence, Rhode Island to Paul and Sophie Pizzo on June 8, 1932. His father, Paul was a barber, and Sophie a homemaker. He was the oldest of three siblings - Dorothy and Paula, and his best friend was life-long chum, Mickey (Morris) Perlow. Always athletic, Joe was a track and field star at Hope High School, and continued to excel in his track and field career at the University of Rhode Island, where he graduated in 1955. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a weather specialist. Joe enjoyed golf and snow skiing with his late wife, Susan McGuire-Pizzo, and he was a faithful member of St. Kevin’s Catholic Church. Joe had the gift of gab and could put anyone at ease. He called everyone his friend. He had a rollicking sense of humor, with a joke always at the ready. Try as he might, his lifelong ambition of winning the Ernest Hemmingway look-a-like contest in Key West, FL was never achieved. “Ah, well! He’d say, “you can’t win ‘em all.” For Joe, it really wasn’t about the winning, it was about the fun.

Joe Pizzo is survived by his children who wish him peace and love - daughter, Daria Parry, of Glen Burnie, Maryland and her spouse, Rob McConnell; son Craig Pizzo, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, and his spouse, Hailan Pizzo; stepdaughter, Robin McGuire Pickens, of Warwick, Rhode Island, and her spouse, Danie (Greg) Pickens; Kevin McGuire, of Bangor, Maine, and his spouse, Brenda Bennett McGuire. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Sarah Morales, of San Diego, California and her spouse Jose Morales; Kaylee Moline-Vaz, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Danie (D.J.) Pickens of Warwick, Rhode Island. He also leaves behind in sadness, great granddaughter, Gabriella Morales, sisters Dorothy Bonardi of Cranston Rhode Island and her spouse William Bonardi; Paula Rocha of Cranston, Rhode Island and spouse Anthony Rocha. His nieces Sonya Pisaturo and spouse Charles Pisaturo and Nicole Rocha Luguesi and nephew Kyle Rocha are also saddened by his loss. Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife, Susan McGuire-Pizzo; his parents, Paul and Sophie; stepson, Daniel McGuire, Jr. and nephew William Bonardi, Jr.
