Obituary

Command Sergeant Major Gerald "Gerry" R. Davis, age 65, of 300 White Gables Drive in Summerville, SC died at home in the company of his family on February 3rd, after fighting an 18-month battle with cancer.

Born in North Kingstown, Rhode Island on May 10, 1950, Gerry was a pillar of the community he lived in for more than 60 years. He graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 1972, where he served as captain of the football team. He was inducted into the North Kingstown High School Football Hall of Fame in 1997. He and Mrs. Davis moved to South Carolina in 2013 to be closer to their 2 sons. As a 28-year Army Reserve veteran, he received numerous honors including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with five oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, and the War on Terrorism Service Medal. Locally, Gerry was vice-commander of the Summerville American Legion, and belonged to the Masonic Lodge.

Gerry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marianne "Teddy" Davis, his two sons Jason and Jared, and his four grandchildren Austin, Troy, Lauren and Gwyneth.

Gerry loved fitness, sailing, riding his Harley and all of his Boston sports teams. He was a man of integrity, and a true patriot and hero on all accounts. Everyone and everything he touched benefited from his influence, and all those who knew him count themselves blessed.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 10am in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. Burial with Military Honors will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 will be appreciated.
