Gerald E. Burns, Jr., 74, of North Kingstown, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Donnelly) Burns for thirty-eight years.
Born in Washington, DC, he was the oldest son of the late Gerald E., Sr. and Mary E. (O'Connell) Burns.
Mr. Burns attended St. John's College High School, the Naval Academy and graduated from Wofford College. He worked for Hartford Insurance Group for twenty-two years and later for MetLife for fifteen years.
He was an avid reader and a Washington Redskins and Boston Red Sox fan.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Emily S. Burns of Wakefield; five siblings, Mary Christine McCarthy of Kensington, MD, Thomas Burns of Severna Park, MD, Kevin Burns of Gaithersburg, MD, Margaret Mary Healy of Frederick, MD and Mary Frances McCarthy of Kensington, MD; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Michael Burns.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 8:45am from the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown, with a Funeral Mass at 10am in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. His burial will be private. Visiting hours Monday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 or South County Home Health Services, 14 Woodruff Avenue, Narragansett, RI 02882 will be appreciated.
