Frederick J. Newman, 98, of Jamestown passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth (Peet) Newman.
He was born in Buttonwoods, Warwick, RI, a son of the late Frederick J., Sr. and Christine (Petersen) Newman.
Mr. Newman owned and operated Warwick Dairy with his father. He was also the owner of a successful lumber yard business in North Kingstown and Jamestown and built many beautiful homes in RI.
Fred enjoyed spending time during the winter at his home in Naples, FL and summers in Jamestown. He was a member of the King Solomon Masonic Lodge in East Greenwich. Mr. Newman was an avid golfer at Royal Palm Country Club in Naples and the Jamestown Country Club.
He enjoyed traveling and spending time on his boat with friends and family throughout his life.
He leaves a niece, Barbara Bancroft Cryan; and numerous cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 1, 2016 at 10am in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. Visiting hours Thursday 5-7pm in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Jamestown EMS or to Gentiva Hospice for their care given to Fred will be appreciated. Much appreciation to Melissa Simmons and Cathleen Purdy for their loving care to both Fred and Ruth Newman.
