Eugene J. “Gene” Girard, Jr., 81, of West Warwick passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lucille M. (Pimental) Girard. They had been married for over 57 years.
He was born on June 26, 1938 in West Warwick, a son of the late Eugene J. and Mary Anne (Mokrzycki) Girard, Sr.
Gene was the owner of Gene's Quality Home Repair Company in West Warwick for many years and later worked as a carpenter at the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston. He served in the Rhode Island National Guards for over nine years with the rank of First Sergeant. Gene was a past president of the Club Frontenac in West Warwick and was very active behind the scenes in the local Republican Party serving as the campaign manager for the late State Senator Donald Roch, Senator Bonnie Stewart, West Warwick Mayor Michael J. Levesque, West Warwick Town Council President John Roch and West Warwick Town Councilman J.P. Millette. He also served as the Town Sergeant in West Warwick and was a member of the Rhode Island State Constitutional Convention. He was very active in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church in Coventry.
Besides his wife, he leaves his two sons, Stephen K. Girard and wife, Sandra of West Warwick and Michael K. Girard and wife, Adrienne of Warwick; a brother, Donald Girard of North Carolina and a sister, Carolyn Simmonton of Florida; two granddaughters, Stephanie Sawyer and husband, Justin and Shelby Girard; and two great grandchildren, Jacob and Irelyn Sawyer. He was the father of the late Douglas A. Girard and was the brother of the late Lorraine Budziak.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 9 am from the Potvin-Quinn Funeral Home, 45 Curson Street, West Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, 445 Washington Street, Coventry. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in West Warwick. Visitation on Friday, March 6, 2020 from 4-7 pm.
