Edward C. Ponte, 69, of Wood Street, Providence, a retired horse trainer for the Mounted Command Unit, Providence Police Department, passed away, Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at RI Hospital. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Angelo Ponte and the Marie J. (Cerbo) Ponte-Cabeceiras. He was a US Air Force Vietnam veteran. Mr. Ponte was a horse trainer for B.A. Dario, the former Lincoln Downs, Narragansett Race Track and various race tracks in New England. He was also a graduate of Central High School. Edward was the beloved brother of Joanne J. Davis; uncle of Linda Loxley and Kimberly Costantino; cousin of Patricia Spaziano; great uncle of Nicholas and Alicia Costantino. Edward was the companion of Margaret Vaccaro. He was the dear nephew of Anna Warburton, with whom he lived and Tony Ponte of Providence and Anna Kendall of Kingman, KS.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 9:45 am from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Mary Church, Cranston Street, Cranston. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 pm.
