Dwight J. Gara, 63, of Jamestown, RI passed on June 26, 2016 in Newport R.I.
He is survived by Daughter Claire Murphy-Gara, Mother Elizabeth Gara, Brothers Gary and Charles. He was pre-deceased by his wife Jeanne Hurstfadt Gara.
He attended St. Louis Parish School and Notre Dame High School in West Haven Ct, and Eli Whitney Tech in New Haven.
After moving to Rhode Island he worked in the shipbuilding trades for many years, Electric Boat at Quonset. Newport Offshore and Williams & Manchester in Newport where he worked on several America's Cup and Maxi Boat Series campaigns. More recently he fabricated at Senesco at Quonset.
When not handcrafting wood, steel and fiberglass he enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking for large groups and spending precious time with daughter Claire.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 4pm-8pm, with a Prayer Service at 3pm in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Rd, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held Friday, July 1, 2016 at 1pm in St. Thomas Cemetery, 209 Belleview Ave. Southington, CT.
It is encouraged that, in lieu of flowers, Donations be made to the "Claire Fund " at any branch of the Bank of Newport.
