Obituary

Andrew “Andy” K. Townend, 86, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Jane (Hodgson) Townend of Narragansett for 63 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Ira B. and Ellen (Steere) Townend.

He lived in Chepachet for most of his life before splitting his time between Narragansett RI and Florida in retirement.

Andy was a lineman for the New England Telephone Co. for 40 years before retiring in 1996. He served as a Navy Corpsman in a Marine unit during the early 1950s.

He was a member of Chepachet Union Church. He was a 50 year member (and Past Master) of Friendship Lodge #7 F & AM, Chepachet, a member of the Scottish Rite (Valley of Providence), and the Smithfield Elks. He also served many years with the Chepachet Fire Department and the Glocester Ambulance Corps.

In addition to his wife, he leaves behind three daughters and their husbands; Steven & Kathy Winsor of Chepachet, Frank & Susan Flynn of Narragansett, Dennis & Sally Ryan of Chepachet.

He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. His 9 grandchildren are Emily (Winsor) Zilly, Britany (Winsor) Coleman both of North Kingstown RI, Bradley Winsor of Newburyport MA, Matthew Flynn of Chepachet RI, Zachary Flynn of Pawtucket RI, Molly (Flynn) Baranoff of North Kingstown RI, Peter Ryan, Jeffrey Ryan and Ellen (Ryan) Seibert of Chepachet RI.

His funeral will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 11am in the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial to follow in Acotes Hill Cemetery, Chepachet. Visitation Tuesday 4-7pm . In lieu of flowers, donations to Chepachet Fire & Rescue, PO Box 755, Chepachet, RI 02814 will be appreciated.
